About a fourth of Alaska’s cruise passengers travel to Denali and Fairbanks on land-based tours or on their own. A handful of eco-friendly smaller ships cross the Northwest Passage and explore other offbeat destinations like the Pribilof and Aleutian Islands. On March 31, 2022, was announced that Huna Totem Corporation has signed an MoA (Memorandum of Agreement) with NCLH-Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings for building a new cruise dock/second berthing facility in Whittier.

The annual cruise ship calendar for Southcentral Alaska ports is compiled by Visit Anchorage and based on data published by Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska. The dates, ships, lines, and capacity are provided. This is a preliminary draft and may see changes prior to summer 2024.

As cruise port, Whittier is the gateway to Prince William Sound and Chugach National Forest (south-central Alaska).

The project's construction works started with the groundbreaking ceremony held on October 10, 2022. The new Whittier cruise ship dock and terminal project is a joint venture between NCL-Norwegian, Whittier City and Huna Totem Development Corporation. The port has a small boat harbor but it is popular as homeport (cruise departure port) due to the wide range of shore excursions and tours starting from here. Most itineraries are 7-day one-ways between Whittier and Vancouver (BC Canada).

Haines offers a delightful blend of history, culture, and outdoor adventures that will create lasting memories of your time in this picturesque Alaskan town. Whittier Harbor is used by both cruise ships and AMH ferries (serving Alaska Marine Highway System with headquarters in Ketchikan AK). The town is served by Whittier Airport (airfield with one runway / not maintained during winter). The Skagway cruise ship calendar with daily passenger capacities is now available digitally!
Total Embark/Debark will be double, since it captures the end of a northbound sailing and the beginning of a separate southbound voyage. Port of calls enroute have zero embark/debark, though guests are typically able to explore the community the ship is visiting that day. The coming year should see similar Southcentral cruise capacity to the year prior. Seward and Whittier remain the primary cruise ship ports in the region, with most 7-day, one-way sailings running between Vancouver, British Columbia, and one of those two ports. Anchorage will see several day calls during the 2024 season as well.

The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Whittier, Alaska. Alaska’s cruise season runs from mid-April to late October with 20 CLIA member cruise lines sailing ships of all sizes in every region of the state. These ships primarily sail round-trip through the Inside Passage from Seattle or Vancouver, British Columbia. Over a third cross the Gulf of Alaska where passengers begin or end their journey in Anchorage via the turn-around ports of Seward and Whittier.
Whittier is a deepwater port and also the only ice-free Alaskan port. Combined with a Voyage of the Glaciers cruise, guests can experience Alaska’s top-two attractions – Glacier Bay National Park and Denali National Park – by choosing from 24 cruisetour itineraries, ranging from three to 10 nights on land, before or after the cruise. Whittier cruise port is located at Passage Canal's entrance in Prince William Sound. The port is approx 100 km (60 mi) southeast from Anchorage AK. Monthly First Friday events highlight local artists at different locations throughout the town.
